October 24, 2007 - Starting this month motorists travelling in south Edmonton have a new 11-kilometre freeway option that will reduce traffic congestion and provide a vital transportation link for the Edmonton region.

The MMM Group played a key role in the development of Alberta's first P3 highway project and completion of the southeast portion of the Anthony Henday Drive Ring Road. MMM was principal consultant for Access Roads Edmonton Ltd. (AREL), which was awarded the $493 million design and construction of the southeast portion of Edmonton's Anthony Henday Drive Ring Road. MMM led a design team that included its Alberta office, and other engineering and geotechnical consultants.

Construction of Anthony Henday Drive, southeast, began in the spring of 2005. The project was undertaken on a design/ build/finance/operate basis and featured 11 km of highway with six lanes between Hwy 2 and 50th Street, and another four lanes between 50th Street and Hwy 14/216. There are 20 separate bridge structures including five interchanges, and there are no traffic lights.

The SE Ring Road is owned by the Province of Alberta and is part of the provincial highway network. This project is being cost-shared between the Governments of Canada and Alberta under the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund.

Along with MMM the AREL team includes: PCL Construction Management Inc.; PCL-Maxam, A Joint Venture; Sureway Construction Management Ltd.; Lafarge Canada Inc.; Stantec Consulting; Transportation Systems Management Inc.; Macquarie Essential Assets Partnership and ABN AMRO Bank N.V.
